The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
