The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
