Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
