And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
