Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 Iblis said, "Lord, because you have caused me to go astray, I shall make earthly things attractive to (people) and mislead all of them 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
