A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
