The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
