He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
