The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
