The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
