Al-Hijjr 5 of 6
So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the town came rejoicing. 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
