And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Out of all of us has the Reminder been given to him alone? Rather, he is indeed an arrogant liar' 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The people of Lut treated the warning. as a lie. 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 As a favour from Us. Thus We recompense him who giveth thanks. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 40
