The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
