And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Quran and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan - devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him. 36 And lo! they surely turn them from the way of Allah, and yet they deem that they are rightly guided; 37 And when he comes before Us, he shall say: 'Would that there had been between me and you, the distance of the two Easts' Evil is the companion. 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? 40 Whether We take thee away, We shall take vengeance upon them, 41 Or (if) We show thee that wherewith We threaten them; for lo! We have complete command of them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. Surely you are on the Straight Way. 43 And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our Messengers We sent before thee: Have We appointed, apart from the All-merciful, gods to be served? 45
