Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
