He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
