The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 Will pray for death, 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
