۞ NOW WHENEVER [the nature of] the son of Mary is set forth as an example, [O Muhammad,] lo! thy people raise an outcry on this score, 57 and say: "Which is better - our deities or he?" [But] it is only in the spirit of dispute that they put this comparison before thee: yea, they are contentious folk! 58 Jesus was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel. 59 Had it been Our Will We would have made angels among you as successors in the earth. 60 And indeed, Jesus will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path. 61 And let not Shaitan (Satan) hinder you (from the right religion, i.e. Islamic Monotheism), Verily, he (Satan) to you is a plain enemy. 62 And when Eisa came to them with clear signs, he said, “I have come to you with wisdom, and to explain to you some of the matters regarding which you dispute; therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 63 Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore serve Him; this is the right path: 64 Then the factions fell apart among themselves. So woe to the wrong-doers from the chastisement of a grievous Day. 65 They await but the Hour: that it should come upon them of a sudden, while they perceive not. 66 On that Day, [erstwhile] friends will be foes unto one another - [all] save the God-conscious. 67
