The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 Gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
