Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the break of Day 1 And by ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
