So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 If they say, "He is but a poet; we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him," 30 Say thou: "Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!" 31 Is it their minds that bid them [to take] this [attitude] - or are they [simply] people filled with overweening arrogance? 32 Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe. 33 Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful. 34 Have they been created from nothing or are they themselves their own creators? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Or, are the treasures of your Lord in their keeping? Or, are they the controllers? 37 Or do they have a ladder whereon they can climb and attempt to listen (to what is transpiring in the Higher Realm)? Then, let any of them who has listened to it produce a clear proof of it. 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they become weighed down in debt? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him! 43 And were they to see a portion of the sky falling, they will say, “It is a heap of clouds.” 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 The Day when their plotting shall not avail them at all nor will they be helped (i.e. they will receive their torment in Hell). 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know not. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 27, Page 36]. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad SAW) for the Decision of your Lord, for verily, you are under Our Eyes, and glorify the Praises of your Lord when you get up from sleep. 48 And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars! 49
