Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
