Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 “And forgive my father* he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
