The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
