۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
