AND [thus it is:] We have not created heaven and earth and all that is between them without meaning and purpose, as is the surmise of those who are bent on denying the truth: but then, woe from the fire [of hell] unto all who are bent on denying the truth! 27 Or should we treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allah like the wicked? 28 (This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect. 29 And We vouchsafed unto Da'ud Sulaiman. How excellent a bondman! verily he was oft-returning. 30 When there were brought to him in the evening (horses) still when standing, swift when running-- 31 Therefore Sulaiman said, “I cherish the love of these horses*, out of remembrance of my Lord”; he then ordered them to be raced until they vanished in a curtain out of sight. (To be used in holy war.) 32 Bring them back to me' And he hacked their legs and necks (slaughtering them for Allah). 33 Certainly We tried Solomon, and We cast upon his throne a mere body; then he repented. 34 He said: My Lord! do Thou forgive me and grant me a kingdom which is not fit for (being inherited by) anyone after me; 35 We made the wind subservient to him, to blow gently wherever he desired at his command 36 And also the Shayatin (devils) from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver, 37 And others linked together in chains, 38 “This is Our bestowal – you may therefore bestow favours or withhold them – you will not be questioned.” 39 And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return. 40
