The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
