The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
