He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
