Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
