The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
