They ask you about "the spirit". Say: "The spirit descends by the command of my Lord, but you have been given only a little knowledge." 85 And if We so willed, We could indeed take away whatever We have revealed unto thee, and in that [state of need] thou wouldst find none to plead in thy behalf before Us. 86 excepting by some mercy of thy Lord; surly His favour to thee is great. 87 Say: 'If mankind and jinn combined together to produce the like of this Koran, they would never be able to produce one like it, not even if they were to help one another' 88 We have indeed turned about for men in this Koran every manner of similitude; yet most men refuse all but unbelief. 89 And they said, “We will not accept faith in you, until you cause a spring to gush forth from the earth for us.” 90 Or thou have a garden of date-palms and grapes, and cause rivers to gush forth therein abundantly; 91 or you cause the heavens to fall down on us in pieces, as you have claimed; or you bring God and the angels before us face to face; 92 or till thou possessest a house of gold ornament, or till thou goest up into heaven; and we will not believe thy going up till thou bringest down on us a book that we may read. Say: 'Glory be to my Lord. Am I aught but a mortal, a Messenger?' 93
