The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
