He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
