He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
