Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
