The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the much-visited House, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
