He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
