Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
