The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
