Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
