The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and the sea that is full 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
