The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
