He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
