He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
