The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
