The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
ALL PRAISE is due to God, who has bestowed this divine writ from on high upon His servant, and has not allowed any deviousness to obscure its meaning: 1 unswerving. To warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 Wherein they will abide for ever; 3 And it (the Koran) warns those who say: 'Allah has taken a son' 4 They have no knowledge of this, as their fathers did not have. How terrible are the words they utter! They speak nothing but lies. 5 Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; 7 and, verily, [in time] We shall reduce all that is on it to barren dust! 8 Or have you thought that the companions of the cave and the inscription were, among Our signs, a wonder? 9 Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. 12
