Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 With it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth- 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 (But such is their adamance) that had We revealed it to one of the non-Arabs and even if he had recited (this clear Arabic discourse) to them 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not. 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 and then what they were promised comes to them, 206 none of their luxuries will be able to save them from the torment? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power, 211 Indeed they are debarred from even hearing it. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 Warn your nearest kinsmen, 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 Put thy trust in the All-mighty, the All-compassionate 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the Satans come down? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 Who give ear, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets - it is the seduced who follow them. 224 Do you not see that they wander about in every valley 225 and how they say that which they do not? 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
