The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
