a good many of olden times, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
