Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefore, O dear Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him, proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
